DESCRIPTION:Presentation and Discussion with Alissa Sklar\, Ph.D. in Communications \n\n\n\nClick here for Information Video \n\n\n\nHas your previously talkative child morphed into a withdrawn teen? Are you struggling to get them to spend time with you instead of staring at their phones? Are you worried about what they are doing when they are out with their friends? \n\n\n\nDon’t despair! It’s absolutely possible (and very important) to remain connected with our teens. In fact\, current research on adolescent brain biology has a lot to teach us about the teenagers we think we know. This workshop focuses on a few key changes that occur during the pre-teen and teen years\, offering practical guidelines to help parents understand their teens and better communicate with them. \n\n\n\nYou will learn: \n\n\n\n\nHow changes in the brain impact the development of good judgment\, problem-solving\, decision-making and impulse control\n\n\n\nHow normal changes in sleep patterns change the way your teen gets through their days and nights and affects schooling and family time\n\n\n\nHow stress\, anxiety\, depression and mental health problems may be experienced during adolescence\, what this means for how they learn\, and how to identify teens at risk\n\n\n\nHow to identify and talk to teens at risk of developing mental health concerns\n\n\n\nHow to teach resilience so students are more successful at learning and everyday life\n\n\n\nWhy we can’t blame hormones for everything\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlissa Sklar\, Ph.D. runs risk(within)reason\, a Montreal consultancy project focused on kids\, technology and risky behaviours. Dr. Sklar has a Ph.D. in communications and cultural studies\, taught in the Communication Studies Department at Concordia University and worked in the field of adolescent risk prevention at McGill University. SUMMARY:Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week (TSAW)
DESCRIPTION:We’re raising money to spoil our teachers and staff the last week of February (right before spring break). \n\n\n\nTSAW (Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week) is an annual event that our teachers & staff have come to look forward to every year! \n\n\n\nGOAL EXCEEDED! THANK YOU! \n\n\n\nIf you missed the opportunity to donate money\, we are still in need of volunteers and/or food donations!You can sign up using the link below. \n\n\n\nWhile we appreciate cash donations\, we are also looking for volunteers and/or food donations!You can sign up using the link below. \n\n\n\nThis year we are very happy to continue some of the special daily treats in the staff room along with the buffet style luncheon that teachers rave about! \n\n\n\nWe’ve set up this campaign with a goal of $3\,000.
